Local 4G users set to enjoy choice and low cost
CHINA Mobile will unveil 300 models of 4G phones in Shanghai and extend 4G signals to cover the whole city by the end of this year, the world’s biggest mobile carrier said yesterday.
Shanghai Mobile has more than 500,000 4G users since it debuted the service at the end of last year. It has built 5,000 4G base stations that extend coverage within the Middle Ring area and the free trade zone. It now offers users 40 4G models, which will increase to 300 by the end of 2014, said Xu Da, Shanghai Mobile’s general manager.
“People will enjoy 4G services with more choices and affordable prices,” said Xu.
China Mobile has said it will cut prices by up to 50 percent, reduce the minimum entry package for 4G to 30 yuan (US$4.81) and allow users to share 4G data traffic starting from June.
China Unicom, the country’s second-biggest mobile carrier, has also announced it will unveil favorable policies for 4G services from today.
