Maximize latest tech to upgrade industry

CHINA should maximize the latest technologies like robotics and industrial animation to upgrade its industrial structure to enhance its global competitiveness, Minister of Industry and Information Technology Miao Wei said yesterday at the China International Industrial Fair.

More than 2,000 exhibitors are showcasing smarter industrial robots, mobile payment technology in subway stations and portable devices to detect food and water quality at the country’s biggest annual industrial fair, which opened yesterday in Shanghai.

Among the participants are Germany’s Siemens and Taiwan-based Delta Electronics.

The Taiwan power management firm displayed its industrial robot, Scara, for the first time. The robot, now used in electronics component manufacturing industry, helps companies issue “smarter and greener” production process in a highly efficient and environment-friendly way.

China has identified the development of industrial robots as a national strategy to upgrade its industrial structure.

Consumers can use mobile phones equipped with NFC (near-field communications) chips to pay for transport fees in all of Shanghai’s Metro stations. They just download an application which allows them to use the function instead of replacing SIM cards previously as China Telecom demonstrated the services.

More than 29,200 professionals, including 587 foreign guests, visited the fair at the Shanghai New International Expo Center in the Pudong New Area on the first day.
