Microsoft eyes tablet market
MICROSOFT Corp has invested heavily in the booming tablet computer market in China in the hopes of catching up with leaders Apple’s iPad models and Google’s Android system.
Microsoft now offers free Windows systems for tablet computers with screens smaller than 9-inch models.
All the tablet computers with Windows systems feature both production and entertainment features, which are expected to challenge other devices focusing on entertainment only, Microsoft said.
Global tablet sales is expected to jump 45 percent year on year to 333.2 million units, surpassing that of PC in 2015, according to Microsoft, citing figures from research firms.
At the end of third quarter, Apple still dominated the domestic tablet computer market with a 56 percent share, followed by Samsung and Lenovo, according to Analysys International, a Beijing-based IT research company.
