Mobile games born out of cooperation
CHINA’S mobile game firms aim to cooperate with film producers and publishers to jointly develop products for millions of young Chinese mobile game players to play on smartphones, Shanghai Daily learned yesterday.
Nasdaq-listed China Mobile Games and Entertainment Group yesterday said it will work with online video website iQiyi on a game based on Japanese animation One Piece.
Both sides will promote marketing of the game, share online traffic and offer better services for fans.
“It’s a trend for the cross-industry cooperation in game and film publishing sectors. We share same fans and audience,” said Li Wei, chief operation officer of Vgame, a CMGE subsidiary.
CMGE also recently launched mobile game “Star Wars: Commanders” ahead of the Chinese mainland release of the latest Star Wars film. The company also developed a kung fu game by cooperating with Shaolin Temple, which became the first license granted by the temple.
Meanwhile, Shenzhen-listed game publisher Youzu.com said it will release a game based on a popular novel, The Secret of Grave Robber. The same-title film is developed by the Shanghai Film Group. The game and film will be released at the same time later this year, Youzu said in a statement.
In the first half of 2015, revenue in China’s mobile game market hit 20.9 billion yuan (US$3.2 billion), a rise of 67.2 percent year on year.
