Most costly Kindle introduced
AMAZON aims to draw paper book readers and owners of older e-readers to a new sleek Kindle e-reader, which the company unveiled in Beijing yesterday.
The asymmetrical Kindle Oasis, the company’s most expensive model, features a thick, handle-like edge that feels like a spine of a book, but the thinness of the rest of the device makes it the lightest Kindle ever made.
The new model is also the priciest as it costs 2,399 yuan (US$370), 900 yuan more than the current flagship model Kindle Voyage and 1,441 yuan over the price of the Kindle Paperwhite, which both offer essentially the same features. The Kindle Oasis is available for pre-orders at Amazon China’s website starting today and will ship within weeks.
The Oasis is a substantial rethink of the Kindle design, which has stayed consistent since the first device was launched in 2007, said Kindle product management head Herve Letourneur, who was in Beijing for the launch.
The high price includes a battery case, which Amazon said allows the Oasis to last two months on a single charge, presuming half an hour of use every day.
