Nearly 7m buyers pre-order Nokia X

MORE than 6.9 million people have pre-ordered the Nokia X, Nokia’s first Android phone, which will debut in the domestic market for 599 yuan (US$96) next Monday, the handset maker said yesterday.

They have placed their orders for the smartphone on JD.com, the phone’s online sales channel, by yesterday, according to website.

Nokia said the smartphone will be sold for 699 yuan later and in a wider range of colors besides green, black and white when it debuts.

The Nokia X’s pricing will make Nokia a new competitor in the entry-level smartphone market in China, already crowded with vendors like Xiaomi, Huawei and ZTE, industry insiders said.

The Nokia X has a 3-megapixel camera and comes with built-in Microsoft’s services like Bing Search and online storage OneDrive. It also supports applications for Android, the world’s biggest open-source mobile system.

Nokia introduced a new range of smartphones powered by Google’s Android operating system in February after it was acquired by Microsoft Corp.
