NetEase Q3 net profit up 10.6%

NET profit at online gaming operator NetEase rose 10.6 percent from a year ago to 1.16 billion yuan (US$189 million) in the three months to September with revenue derived from mobile gaming channels and advertising.

Revenue rose 32.3 percent to 3.33 billion yuan, with online gaming contributing 74 percent of total income, the company said in a stock exchange filing today.

NetEase said that YiChat, a smartphone chatting tool which allows free voice calls between users, has been providing a platform for integrating its mobile applications and services.

"We expect to integrate more communication and social networking functions into YiChat to fuel future growth," William Ding, chief executive officer and director of NetEase, said in a statement.

Online advertising spending from industries such as transportation, food and beverage and financial services also climbed thanks to the higher adoption of news reading applications among smartphone users.
