Network speed to rise to lift info use 20% in 2015
CHINA aims to boost information consumption by 20 percent this year by attracting an extra 200 million 4G phone users and 40 million broadband users via a network upgrade.
The improved 4G and broadband network speed and additional users will give a 20-percent boost to China’s information consumption volume in 2015, mainly in e-commerce, online education and Internet-based healthcare sectors, analysts said.
The revenue of the information consumption market will hit 3.2 trillion yuan (US$516 billion) this year, according to earlier estimates by the Ministry of Commerce.
China will build an extra 600,000 4G base stations to draw 200 million new 4G users this year from 97 million by the end of last year.
The family broadband speed will also be raised to attract an additional 40 million family users this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said yesterday.
The Internet has fueled the demand for online education, tourism services and online finance in China, according to analysts.
Shanghai-based ChinaPNR, an online finance service provider, opened an Internet platform called Bund Wealth yesterday, offering users asset management services, investment channels and investment returns that triple what one gets from bank deposits.
In 2014, China’s asset management market revenue touched 167 trillion yuan, according to Shanghai-based equity research company and information service provider Wind.
