New telco chairman

CHINA Telecom, the country’s No. 3 mobile carrier, appointed a new chairman yesterday after its former chairman resigned amid an investigation into alleged corruption.

Yang Jie, former general manager of the telco, became chairman while Yang Xiaowei, former vice general manager, was appointed as new general manager.

Chang Xiaobing, former chairman of the telco, resigned after he was “suspected of serious violation of discipline” in December, according to the industry watchdog. But final investigation results are not out yet.

Chang was being investigated mainly for alleged corruption problems during his time at China Unicom where he worked for more than a decade before he was appointed as China Telecom’s chairman in August 2015, industry insiders said.
