No dark cloud over Huawei鈥檚 focus shift
Huawei Technologies Co has set up a team of 10,000 people to provide cloud computing and storage infrastructure to enterprise clients as it transforms from being a telecommunication equipment supplier, the company said yesterday in Shanghai.
More than 600 firms are using Huawei’s cloud computing services globally. Within five years, Huawei aims to generate revenue of US$800 million to US$1 billion on cloud computing and storage services, the company had said earlier.
Xu Zhijun, Huawei’s vice executive president, said the country’s biggest telecom equipment maker “will focus on cloud.”
By the end of August, Huawei had established 330 data centers, with 70 of them supporting cloud features, which allow clients to edit, share and exchange data or files online through various devices, the firm said during the Huawei Cloud Congress in Shanghai yesterday.
Huawei said it will build a cloud data center for the Shanghai Tower, which will be China’s tallest building upon completion. It also signed an agreement with CCTV yesterday to offer the country’s biggest TV station cloud computing and storage devices and systems.
In 2013, IT spending in China is set to hit US$323 billion, up 14 percent, according to Gartner Inc.
