Online games rise
THE online games industry in China reached 25.8 billion yuan (US$3.7 billion) in 2009, a 39.5 percent increase over the previous year, a white paper on online game development released by the Ministry of Culture said yesterday.
The document said games by domestic firms surged 41.9 percent last year and now occupy 61.2 percent of the entire market. According to the report, Tencent Inc had replaced Shanda Interactive Entertainment Ltd as the largest online game operator in the country. NetEase.com Inc ranked No. 3.
