Online info security boosted by alliance
A national smart device security alliance was founded yesterday in Shanghai, the first in its kind in China, to improve Internet information security.
The China Smart Device Alliance will ensure the security of e-commerce, personal privacy protection, government management and mobile payment.
The alliance covers the whole industry chain from chip designers, handset vendors, operating system developers and dot-com giants, including ZTE Corp, Tencent Inc and Alibaba Group.
Shanghai Zhangjiang High-Tech Industrial Park, where many of the alliance members are located, said yesterday it plans to establish itself as an information security park.
China’s smart device security market is seen to be worth over 100 billion yuan (US$16.1 billion) as growth is likely to be rapid in 2015 and 2016, helped by surging sales of China-brand phones, industry insiders said.
In 2014, sales of smartphones in China totaled 389 million, accounting for 30 percent of global sales. China-brand phones snared 78.3 percent market share at the end of last year, led by sales of companies like Xiaomi and ZTE, the ministry said.
The revenue of the information security market may reach 67 billion yuan this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said yesterday. The revenue will rise to 100 billion yuan next year, said ZTE, a founding member of the alliance.
