Panel plant starts trial production

CSOT, an LCD panel subsidiary under the TCL Group, yesterday started to produce more energy-efficient screens for handsets and tablet computers at a 16 billion yuan (US$2.5 billion) panel plant in Wuhan on a trial basis.
The plant is the first sixth-generation LTPS (low-temperature poly silicon) panel line in the Chinese mainland and will help trim dependence on supply from Samsung and LG.
CSOT, or China Star Optoelectronics Technology, said the plant’s annual revenue may hit over 10 billion yuan within a few years. The company expects mass production to start in January next year.
