Park’s soft power lays in center

RESIDENTS and employees working in the Shanghai Pudong Software Park in the Zhangjiang area now have a shopping mall for their recreational needs.

The 110,000-square-meter Huizhi Life Center, which costs 700 million yuan (US$113 million), boasts retailers and restaurants as well as a 4D cinema and an array of stores selling the latest high-tech gadgetry.

The new commercial center is set to meet demand from more than 200,000 residents and white-collar employees with the power to consume in Zhangjiang, which lacks commercial amenities and has more than 10,000 high-tech enterprises. The center opened yesterday in the software park, which is Shanghai’s biggest software and IT service industrial park and a national software industry base.

Over 500 firms, including SAP and Qualcomm, have set up facilities in the park. Startups in technology sectors, such as 3D printing, wearable computing and Internet finance, are also located in the park.
