Qihoo 360 picks Qiku for phones
QIHOO 360, China’s biggest online security firm, revealed yesterday that its coming new phones will be branded Qiku and sold at a lower price.
The phones will boast similar features on par with models from other manufacturers that cost 5,000 yuan (US$806) but at a lower price, said Zhou Hongyi, chairman and chief executive of New York-listed Qihoo 360. But he didn’t reveal the price or other details about the Qiku phones.
Qihoo 360, also China’s No. 2 Internet search engine service provider, said in December that it would invest 45 percent in a joint venture to market smartphones under Shenzhen-based Coolpad’s Dazen brand and sold on the Internet.
The tie-up will help Coolpad build a strong mobile Internet ecosystem, said Guo Deying, chairman of the Hong Kong-listed company.
