Qihoo 360 to build smart home system
QIHOO 360, China’s biggest Internet security company, plans to invest more than 10 billion yuan (US$1.6 billion) to build a smart home eco-system, the New York-listed company said yesterday.
Qihoo 360 aims to offer users a safe and reliable smart home system through cameras and smart routers. It plans to join hands with home appliance vendors to establish an open smart home eco-system, Zhou Hongyi, chairman and chief executive of Qihoo 360, said at the Appliance & Electronics World Expo in Shanghai.
Xu Dongsheng, secretary-general of the China Household Electrical Appliances Association, said: “The convergence between smart appliance and Internet is a trend now.”
Qihoo 360, also the country’s No. 2 online search service provider, aims to set up an open and complete smart home eco-system in China as it taps its cloud-computing ability and a huge user base of over 700 million mobile users.
It has banded with Haier and AUX to develop a smart home eco-system. Qihoo 360 intends to invest 10 billion yuan in the eco-system development.
The smart home sector has drawn Xiaomi to invest in Midea while Alibaba has invested in Meizu.
The expo, which will close on Saturday, has drawn over 550 exhibitors, including Haier and Midea, displaying latest smart home products and services such as air purifiers remotely controlled by smartphones and automatic cleaning robots.
