Qihoo appeals verdict

Qihoo 360 Technology Co’s appeal against a ruling in its lawsuit accusing rival Tencent of exploiting its monopolistic position in the market was heard by the Supreme People’s Court yesterday, which did not give a verdict.

The legal war between antivirus software provider Qihoo 360 and Tencent, China’s largest Internet company, is seen as the most important anti-monopoly lawsuit in the country’s Internet sector.

In March, the Guangdong Higher People’s Court rejected Qihoo 360’s demand for 150 million yuan (US$24.6 million) compensation and a public apology from Tencent.

Qihoo appealed against the verdict in the SPC whose ruling will be final.

At yesterday’s hearing, Qihoo claimed again that Tencent sought to use its dominant rank in the instant messaging market and forced users to download Internet security tools.
