SAP ‘ready’ for public cloud computing
SAP AG is “fully ready” to offer public cloud computing services to Chinese customers as the company joins other overseas giants in providing them in the domestic market, Europe’s biggest enterprise software vendor said yesterday in Shanghai.
“We are now fully ready to offer (cloud) services in China,” Mark Gibbs, SAP China’s president, said during an interview at the SAP Forum yesterday in Shanghai.
“We have transformed to a company with cloud-oriented business.”
SAP signed agreements with firms including property giant Shimao Group on ERP (enterprise resource plan) and food firm Oishi on cloud services yesterday.
Cloud computing allows users to save, edit, share and process data and files through various devices, including laptops, computers and mobile phones, based on the online “cloud” platform, according to research firm International Data Corp. The technology will create 4 million new jobs in China by 2015.
In November, SAP said it would offer cloud services to Chinese clients with partner China Telecom, heating up competition with overseas giants, including Microsoft Corp and Amazon Inc which are also licensed for public cloud services in China.
