Sales of iPad Mini begin on mainland

Apple Inc yesterday started selling its new-generation iPad Mini with Retina display on the Chinese mainland, one of the first batch of countries and regions to debut the device globally.

It can be booked on Suning and Apple China websites. Customers can also buy the device in Suning’s 500 outlets nationwide, the country’s biggest electronics retail chain.

The 7.9-inch iPad Mini, which comes in four memory sizes, starts at 2,888 yuan (US$474) for the 16-gigabyte model. The 128GB model costs 4,988 yuan. There are also the 32 GB and 64 GB models.

The iPad Mini devices sold on the mainland are Wi-Fi only models.

Apple China’s website says the 16GB and 32GB iPad Mini will be shipped in one to three working days and five to 10 working days for the other two models.
