Samsung Electronics taps its president to be CEO
SAMSUNG Electronics says its president and digital media chief Geesung Choi will take over as CEO from Yoon-woo Lee, as part of a management shuffle at the South Korean technology giant.
Lee, who has served as CEO since May 2008, will continue as chairman. Samsung also has named Jay Y. Lee to the newly created position of chief operating officer and Ju-Hwa Yoon as chief financial officer.
Samsung Electronics is the world's biggest manufacturer of memory chips, liquid crystal displays and flat screen televisions. It ranks second behind Finland's Nokia in mobile phones.
The company was shaken last year as the global economic slump hit prices and demand for its mainstay products, but it has since rebounded, booking profit in all three quarters so far this year.
