Samsung UHD TV sales beat forecast
SAMSUNG’S sales and pre-orders of its UHD (ultra-high resolution) curved-screen TV models of 65 inches and above in China this month surged 50 percent above forecast, the world’s No. 1 TV maker said.
“The UHD curved screen is the next big thing and future standard in the TV industry,” said Ou Wensheng, president of Samsung Electronics China’s TV business, at the weekend.
He attributed the surge, which the company didn’t provide detailed figures for, partly to Chinese consumers’ experience of the curved-screen TVs’ video and audio quality.
Sales of UHD TVs will hit 8 million units in China this year, from just 600,000 units last year, according to data collated by GFK, a Germany-based market researcher.
A UHD television boasts super high image quality that covers 8K and 4K technology which is a generic term for display devices having a horizontal resolution of 8,000 pixels or 4,000 pixels, unlike the 2,000 pixels found in conventional TVs.
Industry giants Sony and LG have also launched UHD TVs in China.
