Samsung releases new Galaxy tablet in China

SAMSUNG Electronics, which launched new Galaxy tablet computers and smart phones, expects its Chinese revenue to grow rapidly this year thanks to the country's booming LCD TV and smart phone market, the South Korean electronics giant said today.

Samsung launched new 8.9-inch and 10-inch Galaxy Tab models today in Shanghai, joining an escalating tablet war with Apple, Motorola and Lenovo.

"We are providing products that are different from other companies," said Kim Youngha, Samsung China's chief executive.

"Our products are designed for Chinese consumers, from smart phone, Galaxy tablets, laptops to LCD TVs," Kim added.

In 2010, Samsung's revenue in China reached US$39.6 billion, accounting for 29 percent of its global income, the company said.

New tablet computers, smart phones and new function TVs will boost Samsung's revenue in China, said Samsung, which has already released a 7-inch tablet PC in China.

Through the new products, Samsung, which has sold more than 2 million Galaxy tablets globally, aims to challenge the dominance of Apple's iPad, of which 15 million units have been sold worldwide.
