Shanda to open operation center in Europe, eyeing overseas M&As
SHANDA Games will establish a new operation center in Europe this year and seek merger and acquisition opportunities amid its overseas expansion, the Shanghai-based game giant said today.
Overseas income will account for 20 percent of the company's total revenue next year, double the current level, said Alan Tan, chief executive of Shanda Games.
Shanda has purchased an operation company in Germany and plans to open a European operation center this year, Tan said. Meanwhile, the company is going to release new game titles in the Asian market through operation or distribution partners, according to Tan. But Tan declined to reveal the detailed of overseas M&As.
Since 2010, Shanda has invested US$200 million on overseas acquisitions, including a US$80 million deal for US-based game platform Mochimedia and a US$90 million for South Korea-based game developer Eyedentity Games which created popular title Dragon Test.
Overseas markets will contribute 10 percent of Shanda's game revenue this year, compared with five percent last year. The figure next year will hit 20 percent, Tan added.
