Shanghai aims as national LED base

LIGHT Emitting Diode, an energy-efficient and environment friendly lighting technology, will be widely adopted in public transport, such as in newly-built high-speed railway system, Shanghai Daily learned yesterday.

Shanghai aims to establish itself as a national LED base with all sectors in the industry chain, from chip design, screen vendors to assembly and test.

Firms also are seeking to expand their presence in the Chinese market after the Shanghai World Expo ends. More than 80 percent of indoor lighting at the Expo features LED technology, which is regarded as a green technology.

More than 80 percent of LED lighting in cities with high-speed rail systems, including Shanghai, Beijing, Guanghzou, Wuhan and Tianjin, will be provided by Shanghai Sansi Technology Co.

Multinational and domestic display firms have established research centers and showrooms.

Shenzhen Retop LED Display Co, which provided the world's biggest 10,000-square-meter LED screen during the Expo's opening ceremony, forecast its revenue for exports and the domestic market to be evenly divided within one or two years.
