Shanghai boosts software and IT areas

Shanghai opened a new online outsourcing service center and established a cross-board IT industry alliance yesterday as part of the city’s blueprint to develop its software and IT service industry, government officials said yesterday.

The service center seeks to promote cooperation as well as tapping opportunities between local and overseas companies in areas where they can complement each other. The cross-board alliance will help local firms to better communicate with hopeful clients and help in overseas expansion.

The city has identified the software and outsourcing industry as one of the strategic industries to focus on during the Twelve Five Year plan until 2015 to create a more innovative and technological economy, officials said at the Shanghai Forum on Software Trade 2013.

“The software and outsourcing industry represents the city’s latest development of technology trends like social, mobile, big data and cloud computing,” said Shang Yuying, chairman of the Shanghai Commerce Commission.
