Shanghai leads in info security issues
SHANGHAI leads the way in information security on the Chinese mainland because of advanced IT infrastructure and the concentration of related firms such chip firms and telecommunication carriers, Shanghai Daily learned yesterday.
More than 100,000 people in Shanghai, including government officials and executives of state-owned enterprises, are using security communications services offered by China Telecom’s Shanghai branch and Coolpad, the companies said yesterday.
Cooperating with China Telecom, Coolpad aims to sell more high-end phones with security features in Shanghai, according to the company which set up a US$409.1 million joint venture with Qihoo 360, China’s biggest Internet security provider, in December.
“Shanghai has special priority in our national strategy to be at the forefront of information security nationwide,” said Tong Wei, Coolpad’s head for East China region.
Shanghai boasts the whole industry chain for information security from chip designers, handset vendors, operating system developers and dot-com giants, such as Leadcore Technology and ZTE Corp’s handset unit.
China’s smart device security market is worth over 100 billion yuan (US$16.1 billion) as growth is likely to be rapid in 2015 and 2016, industry insiders said.
The revenue of the information security market may reach 67 billion yuan this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said yesterday.
