Shanghai sets smart-park target for 2015
SHANGHAI plans to establish eight to 10 smart parks with top-class technologies such as cloud computing and Big Data by 2015 as it looks to lead the sector nationwide, the city’s information technology regulator said yesterday.
The smart parks will feature high-speed wireless networks, integrated and shared technology research platforms, convenient living conditions and industry chains for cutting-edge technologies.
“It will be a key part of transforming Shanghai’s economy to a more innovation-oriented model,” said Liu Jian, vice chairman of the Shanghai Commission of Economy and Information Technology.
Leading banks, telecommunication and technology companies and venture capital firms are involved in the project.
For example, the Shanghai Pudong Software Park has added high-definition cameras and sensors as part of the Internet of Things technology. Companies in the park are able to tap its high-speed broadband and wireless network to access more cloud computing services, which allow people to edit, transfer or share data or files online through various devices.
In March, the city founded the Shanghai Smart Park Association with more than 100 members, including China Telecom, China Minsheng Banking Corp and Beidou Navigation.
