Shanghai to boost outsourcing efforts

SHANGHAI will continue to develop its outsourcing industry to help the city restructure its economy and bolster the service sector, government officials said yesterday.

The city's software and information technology service sector may expand 20 percent annually, with market value expected at 600 billion yuan (US$95.2 billion) by 2015, said Fu Xinhua, vice chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization.

The software service industry will contribute about 40 percent of the overall information technology industry in the city, Fu told the Global IT Outsourcing Forum 2012 in Shanghai yesterday.

He Jifeng, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of the Software Engineering Institute of East China Normal University, said "Shanghai should foster more high-end outsourcing contractors especially in the finance sector."

The contract value of software outsourcing in Shanghai surged 40.5 percent annually in the first three quarters to US$1.4 billion, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce said.
