Sina users warned of potential leak of their accounts

SINA iAsk, an information and document sharing platform of Sina, warned users of possible leak of their accounts and passwords.

"About 300,000 Sina users who logged on iAsk may have the risk of having their passwords leaked because of a loophole in our system," Sina iAsk said in a statement yesterday.

The company said it has fixed the system bug and affected users need to change their passwords before they continue to use their Sina accounts.

The risk of password leak at Sina iAsk follows a hacker attack last month against the China Software Developer Network, the country's largest programmers' website. The attack led to the leak of more than 6 million passwords and user profiles from CSDN.

Because most web users use identical accounts and passwords at several websites, the incident also affected Tianya and Renren, leading BBS and social networking sites in China, sending many netizens into panic.

Many websites also urged their users to change passwords for safety reason.
