Snail quick to give SIM numbers to users
SNAIL Games became the first of 11 private companies to offer mobile numbers directly to consumers, the Suzhou-based game firm said over the weekend.
It is offering China’s first mobile numbers starting with 170 to consumers, Snail said.
“It’s the country’s first prepaid card issued by a game operator without a monthly package and expiration period (for data traffic),” Snail said in a statement yesterday.
The Snail SIM (subscriber identity module) card, sold on its website, costs 399 yuan (US$65.4) for unlimited half-year voice communications nationwide and 3 gigabytes of data traffic.
China issued telecommunications service licenses to the 11 private firms at the end of last year as the government hopes to lure private funds to the industry, dominated by state-owned giants, to boost competition and service quality, analysts said.
The other firms holding virtual carrier licenses include online retailer 360buy.com, handset distributor Tianyin and BusAP, a media provider for public transport.
