Software parks form alliance

SEVENTY-FIVE regional software industrial parks, which contributed 60 percent of Chinese software and IT service revenue, formed a national development alliance in Shanghai to improve regional cooperation and better develop the industry nationally.

"The development alliance is a new platform," said Chen Wei, software division director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, at the weekend. "It helps software parks share resources and exchange experience and further pushes the industry development."

The major members of the alliance are Shanghai Pudong Software Park, Beijing Zhongguancun Software Park and Shenzhen Software Park.

China's software industry is expected to grow by 20 percent annually until 2015, according to the ministry's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015).

The alliance also marks the city's goal to develop a software industry, one of nine key areas for Shanghai to upgrade its economic structure, said Dai Haibo, director of the Shanghai Commission of Economy and Information Technology.

In the first quarter, Shanghai's software industry revenue was 82.5 billion yuan (US$13.1 billion), a 19.5 percent annual growth.
