Sohu Inc posts 37% jump in Q2 profit

CHINESE Internet portal and online game operator Sohu Inc said its second-quarter profit jumped 37 percent from a year ago, fueled by strong advertising and online game revenues.
Net income for the three months ended June 30 rose to US$44.27 million, or US$1.10 per share, the company said in a statement today.
Sales climbed 36 percent to US$198.7 million, with online advertising sales growing 27 percent to US$67.7 million and online game income jumping 31 percent to US$101.5 million.
Sohu has been actively boosting its presence in the online video sector and search engine to expand its product line and cater to a wider group of web users.
Sohu's search unit Sogou has become the country's third largest search engine in terms of advertising income, about 2.4 percent in market share, after Baidu's 75.9 percent and Google's 18.9 percent, according to research house Analysys International.
Sohu's search related revenues more than tripled from a year ago to US$13.6 million in the second quarter with increased search traffic.
