Sohu reports 23% rise in Q3 revenue
ONLINE game and search engine operator Sohu reported a 23 percent increase in sales in the third quarter of this year thanks to rising online gaming income.
Revenue in the three months ended September 30 was US$285 million, the company said in a stock exchange filing today.
Profit fell 47 percent annually to US$24 million after an increase of marketing expenses and headcount.
Brand advertising income was not so impressive due to a slowdown of spending from multinational advertisers.
"Despite some weakening signals from the auto sector as Japanese carmakers cut spending, we hope the impact will be offset by other sectors," Belinda Wang, co-president and chief operation officer of Sohu, said in the statement.
Sohu's search unit Sogou saw revenue more than double to US$37 million in the quarter with a rise in market share and improved monetization.
Its online gaming unit Changyou reported a 30 percent annual increase to US$151 million.
