Strategic tie-up

CHINA Mobile Shanghai Co yesterday formed a strategic tie-up with Thailand's leading retail conglomerate CP Group to extend its mobile phone payment business.
The cooperation allows shoppers to use mobile phones to pay at CP Group's 21 Lotus supermarkets in Shanghai. It's the first time the mobile wallet services were adopted by an international supermarket operator.
Shanghai Mobile users can swipe the phone at the checkout counters after replacing the SIM (subscriber identity module) cards.
So far, the mobile wallet is available at more than 2,000 stores of retailers, including McDonald's, Starbucks and Alldays convenient stores. It can also be used on 12 special Expo bus routes and at 280 stations of 11 Metro lines.
