Tech fair to display over 800 projects

MORE than 800 high-technology projects will be on display at the first China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair which opens today in Shanghai.

These projects cover a wide span of industries from advanced manufacturing, information technology, clean energy to biotechnology, Shang Yuying, chairman of the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, said yesterday at a press conference.

Fair participants can also attend more than 70 forums and events which will promote trading of technology, protection of intellectual property and innovation-driven development.

Shang said the fair will help Shanghai accelerate its industrial restructuring, and aid China as it transforms the economy. China aims to shift the economy to an innovation-centered one and is gradually switching to higher-end exports.

The value of China's technology trade totaled 64.37 billion yuan (US$10.4 billion) in 2012, tripling from that of 2006, according to official data.

The fair, the first of its kind in the world, is held at Intex Shanghai and ShanghaiMart from today to Saturday.
