Tech may ease 鈥榟abit of buying fresh food鈥
A self-service machine that allows consumers to buy fresh food and vegetables around the clock is one of the technologies that will be shown during the 3rd China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair, which starts in the city today.
Shen Junwei, chairman of Shanghai E-Cooktimes Co, which offers 24-hour self-service purchase machine for fresh food such as vegetables, meats and fruits, said he spent six years researching and developing an artificial intelligence machine as well as facilitating a logistic system.
It used to be difficult to keep food fresh while bearing the high costs of delivery and storage.
But Shen’s 15-square-meter machine, which has already set up in 10 residential communities and offers around 60 food items currently, makes the purchase of fresh products more convenient and less expensive.
“I am confident it will become a technology that can transform people’s habit of buying fresh food,” he said.
His company staff will replenish the fresh produce in the machine after two days to ensure freshness.
Shen will attend the fair with his third-generation machine, which only occupies 5 square meters and offers more varieties of food with better temperature control.
Shen is confident of expanding into more than 1,000 residential communities in the next few years.
The fair, China’s biggest platform for trading technology, will be held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center from today to Saturday.
Domestic and overseas firms will display high-tech products and services in areas such as energy conservation, environment protection and biotechnology.
