Telcos offer affordable packages, services
CHINA’S state-owned telecommunication carriers are launching affordable data traffic and smart home services to boost information consumption to help nurture economic development.
The smart home, next-generation mobile network and artificial intelligence sectors are set to fuel future information consumption, analysts said.
Taking advantage of World Telecommunications Day today, China Mobile offers online video users new packages of up to 30 gigabytes of video traffic for 24 yuan (US$3.49), or 10 percent of the normal cost. The packages support videos on Tencent, Youku Tudou, PPTV and its own Migu video service.
“In the near future, people will find it not necessary to search Wi-Fi spots outside. The 4G and coming 5G services are enough,” said Huang Gang, vice president of China Mobile’s Shanghai branch.
The country’s biggest mobile carrier also cut the cost of data packages and trim international roaming fees, especially in the Belt and Road regions.
China Telecom offers new smart home services in Shanghai such as web-linked water purifiers and high-definition surveillance cameras.
