Telecom sells iPhone 4S

CHINA Telecom starts selling Apple's iPhone 4S on the Chinese mainland today.

The nation's No. 3 carrier, after China Mobile and China Unicom, has taken more than 20,000 pre-orders in Shanghai, it said yesterday.

The phone will be available at around 2,850 outlets of China Telecom and from electronics retailers including Gome and Suning nationwide.

According to a recent Morgan Stanley report, linking up with China Telecom is expected to attract up to 4 million new iPhone users in China by the end of the year.

China Telecom's packages start at 49 yuan (US$7) a month, compared to China Unicom's entry-level 66 yuan.

China Unicom, which was Apple's sole carrier partner for the iPhone on the mainland, started selling iPhones in October 2009 and the latest 4S model in January.
