Tencent teams up with YG Entertainment on music and shows

TENCENT’S online music streaming service QQ Music said it has signed an exclusive strategic agreement with Korean artist management company YG Entertainment to introduce patent music and entertainment shows.

QQ Music would become YG Entertainment’s exclusive patent distribution agent in China’s mainland to boost the Korean company’s influence and income in China through Tencent’s social networking software and sites that gather fans from different age groups and regions.

YG Entertainment is the artist management agency for a number of Korean Pop stars such as SE7EN, BIGBANG, and Psy.

The two companies would also join hands to make tailor-made entertainment shows for Chinese audience by collecting their reviews and discussions on social networking sites.

Dawson Tong, senior executive vice president of Tencent, said the company aims to explore innovative business models in the mobile Internet era and better connect music with smart TV sets, on-board control system and even intellectual residential system.

YG Entertainment will also work with the Chinese company to discover, select and promote grassroot artists and performers in China.
