Tencent to propel Shanghai鈥檚 hub goal
SHANGHAI agreed yesterday to deepen collaboration with Tencent Holdings to propel the city to become a globally influential innovation hub.
In a meeting with Tencent chairman Pony Ma in Shanghai, the city’s Party Chief Li Qiang said the two sides hope to deepen collaboration to fuel integration of artificial intelligence, big data and cloud computing with the real economy in Shanghai’s ambitious quest to transform into a modern innovative metropolis.
Li welcomed Tencent to play an active role in the World Artificial Intelligence Conference that Shanghai will host in September. Li also encouraged the city to adopt more of Tencent’s latest technologies, products and business models.
Shanghai Executive Vice Mayor Zhou Bo and Tencent Vice President and General Manger of East China division, Zhang Lijun, signed the collaboration deal in Shanghai yesterday.
Shanghai’s collaboration with Tencent Holdings dates back to 2015 and has achieved fruitful results in a number of areas including smart urban management, entrepreneurship and startup incubation and cloud computing.
The government signed strategic partnership agreements earlier this month with Alibaba and Xiaomi Corp for wide-ranging cooperation in innovative technologies and artificial intelligence.
