Two firms jointly introduce 3G phones
NOKIA Corp and China Mobile jointly launched two 3G phones with China-developed technology and announced they would cooperate in the wireless music market, both companies said yesterday.
Nokia and China Mobile introduced the Nokia C5-01 and X5-00 models. Both models feature strong music functions, large screens and home-grown TD-SCDMA, time division-synchronous code division multiple access, technology. The handsets can be used to access an online music service called MM-Ovi, jointly operated by China Mobile and Nokia.
"We will continue to introduce new 3G phones to meet users' various demands," said Zhao Fang, marketing director of China Mobile. "We hope our customers enjoy the music services on our 3G phones and online store."
The online music store will provide services such as customized ring tones, song downloads and lyric display, according to Nokia.
By the end of June, China has 10.2 million TD-SCDMA users, half of the total 3G users, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said.
