UHD TV poised for 鈥榚xplosive growth鈥
SALES of ultra high definition television, or UHD TV, will see an “explosive growth” in China this year.
Sales figures for UHD TV, now offered by giants like Samsung Electronics and Sony and bringing users four times or higher image quality compared with current TVs, will hit 8 million units in China in 2014, compared with only 600,000 last year, according to data revealed by GFK, a German-based market researcher, at the Appliance World Expo 2014 which opened in Shanghai yesterday.
“UHD is seeing explosive growth in the market, especially in China. It may be the only bright spot in the TV market in 2014,” said Zhao Xinyu, GFK’s managing director in China.
UHD represents super high image quality in the TV market, covering 8K and 4K technology which is a generic term for display devices having horizontal resolution on the order of 4,000 pixels, compared with the traditional 2,000 pixels.
Samsung, which has a 16.6 percent market share in China’s 100 biggest cities, according to GFK, aims to continue expanding its market by offering new UHD TV models.
Samsung has displayed UHD TVs ranging from 40 to 110-inch models at the AWE. “We hope the super high image quality will attract the country’s high-end users,” said Ou Wensheng, Samsung China’s vice president of TV business.
Besides next-generation TV, air and water purifying devices and home appliance devices with wireless connections are a highlight of the four-day show.
