Weibo earnings reach US$4.2 million in Q2
SINA'S microblogging site Weibo.com said earnings in the second quarter reached US$4.2 million, against a net loss of US$15.5 million a year earlier, with strong mobile marketing income.
Revenue in the three months ended June 30 climbed 39 percent to US$107.8 million, beating Bloomberg's estimate of US$104.8 million, thanks to higher advertising income, according to a stock exchange filing today.
Advertising income jumped 47 percent from a year ago to US$87.9 million and mobile advertising revenue made up 62 percent of overall advertising income.
The number of monthly active users of Weibo added 36 percent to 212 million by the end of June, as Weibo has been driving partnership with television programs and movie to encourage user activity, and users from smart devices contribute as many as 85 percent of overall active user base.
