Xinhua, Feixun launch news app for smart phones

XINHUA News Agency today launched a new mobile news reading software in collaboration with Shanghai-based Feixun Communication Co Ltd as people shift to smart phones to read news.
The "News Board" reading software will be pre-installed in PhiComm's new mobile phone model and will be available at China Telecom's outlets early next month.
It will also be sold at retail outlets and online shopping sites in early 2013 with an initial price set at 1,599 yuan (US$254).
Xinhua's new media center will provide content for the software and Feixun will provide technical support.
The software will combine rich media content provided by the news agency as well as news stories contributed by its affiliated newspapers and magazines
Feixun's president Gu Guolin told Shanghai Daily that the two parties are expected to launch a joint venture company in the near future to pursue collaboration and bring news to more smart phone users.
Xinhua's new media center also signed a framework agreement with Feixun to work on future product launches and content distribution.
Android version of the app will be available at the end of January and an iPhone version is in development.
