ZTE Corp still in dark over FBI probe
ZTE Corp has not received any sanctions or notifications from US authorities on its business deals with Iran, the country's biggest public telecommunications equipment maker said today.
China hoped the Shenzhen-based telecom equipment maker ZTE, subject of an FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) probe into the sale of banned US computer equipment to Iran, would receive fair and proper treatment from the United States, China's Ministry of Commerce's spokesperson Shen Danyang also said today.
"We haven't received any notifications from the FBI or other authorities, therefore we comment on that issue," David Dai, a ZTE spokesperson in charge of overseas business, told Shanghai Daily in a phone interview today.
The telecom company sold a powerful surveillance system capable of monitoring landlines, mobile phones and Internet communications to Iran's largest telecoms firm, the Smoking Gun website reported previously.
ZTE has provided standard communications and network solutions to Iran on a small scale. But it has restricted its business practices in the country since 2011 and it has no longer seeks new customers in Iran, ZTE said in a previous statement.
