ZTE eyes 50% rise in smartphone sales
ZTE Corp plans to increase smartphone sales by over 50 percent annually in 2014 as it taps the popularity of 4G devices, the Shenzhen-listed firm said in Beijing yesterday.
The increasing handset and mobile equipment sales are likely to boost profit by 142 to 152 percent on-year to range between 1.2 billion yuan and 1.5 billion yuan (US$198 million to US$246 million), ZTE said.
The company plans to sell 60 million smartphones globally this year, up from 40 million units in 2013. China sales will account for one-third of global sales this year, said Ye Weimin, ZTE’s vice president.
‘‘The 4G phones, priced about 1,000 yuan, will become profit and revenue engines of ZTE this year,’’ Ye said.
ZTE, which now relies heavily on orders from telecom providers, intends to increase sales from the public from 20 percent last year to 50 percent within one or two years.
