ZTE to grow channels for distribution

ZTE Corp will invest at least 300 million yuan (US$46.4 million) to expand its distribution channels this year and hike domestic sales contribution as it targets annual sales of 70 million smartphones this year.

The development and expansion of the distribution channels marks a key strategy for ZTE in 2016, said Yu Yifang, the company’s vice president.

“We have to touch consumers, therefore 2016 is a ‘distribution’ year for the company,” said Yu.

The investment will also drive ZTE to open 3,000 to 4,000 new offline stores nationwide and flagship stores in major cities, China’s biggest listed telecommunications equipment maker said yesterday.

ZTE also aims to sell 70 million smartphones in 2016, up from 56 million last year. It plans to lift the contribution of domestic sales to 45 percent in the near future, up from below 30 percent last year, said Yu.

ZTE is partnering China UnionPay to allow users to use fingerprint for payment, picking calls and taking pictures in the A910 and V7 Max models that it released yesterday, its first product launch since the US removed export restrictions on the firm.

The A910 has a 5.5-inch screen and fingerprint features and the V7 Max comes with a 16-megapixel camera. Both models cost under 2,000 yuan.
