ABB gains from talks at mayor's forum
SWISS-SWEDISH power engineering group ABB has benefitted from the annual Shanghai mayor's forum as it has given the firm an impression of the city's aspirations for the future, its Chief Executive Officer Joe Hogan said.
He is convinced that the International Business Leaders' Advisory Council, at which the world's finest business minds gather together, is helping the city government turn Shanghai into a better metropolis.
Here in the city for his third IBLAC, Hogan was pleased that suggestions offered were well received and actually implemented.
"People are really taking action to make the city better and make it more conducive to business and achieve a higher quality of life for the people and the country," Hogan said in an interview.
"I like the idea that the mayor of Shanghai invites us in for ideas about how to make the city better and how we can work together," he said.
Hogan emphasized it was important for ABB that "we come here every year and we understand from the mayor what the aspirations of Shanghai are going to be."
Hogan said his main focus at the IBLAC this time was on green energy.
He said the city's infrastructure has to change to be able to support green energy and the World Expo site is a good example of using wind power generated from the Donghai Bridge Wind Farm, which the firm is involved with.
The Expo site "is a good test system to show how you will take that kind of green power and move it to the rest of the city," Hogan said.
ABB is the largest supplier of electric components, such as transformers and inverter systems, for wind turbines and supplies equipment to connect power to the grid.
