Abbott redefines responsibility for health care needs

IN its first citizenship report in China released today, pharmaceuticals and medical company Abbott redefined responsibility as: Protecting Patients and Consumers, Innovating for the Future, Enhancing Access and Safeguarding the Environment.

Abbott has won a series of awards for its efforts in social responsibility (citizenship) such as Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and North America Index's global leadership in economic, environmental and social performance, ranking 6th of "100 Best Corporate Citizens List 2010" by Corporate Responsibility magazine and FORTUNE magazine's No. 1 Most Admired Company in its industry sector in 2010, said in its citizenship report.

Abbott is a global, broad-based health care company devoted to the discovery, development, manufacture and marketing of pharmaceuticals and medical products, including nutritionals, devices and diagnostics.

Abbott has been operating in China for nearly 20 years and provides Chinese consumers with a diverse range of nutrition, pharmaceutical and medical products. Opening in 2009, Abbott invested approximately US$20 million in a new nutritional manufacturing facility in Guangzhou. Abbott has more than 3,000 employees in China.
