BOEHRINGER Ingelheim has launched its 10 million euro (US$12.7 million) research and development facility in Shanghai to provide innovative pharmaceutical research and analysis.
The Center of Competence, as a part of the German drug maker's 100 million euro expansion plan in China, will specialize in optimizing active pharmaceutical ingredients and chemical intermediates procured in China.
It also aims to double its production facilities in the country to meet growing demand and its number of staff will also rise to 7,000 from 2,000 in the next five or six years.
